Owning a snake is a fascinating experience, and they do make a great pet provided that you fulfill their requirements.
Andone of their needs in captivity is additional heat.
As we know, snakes are cold-blooded reptiles and need heat to survive as pets in captivity.
A heating pad attached to their tank makes sure that your snake gets adequate warmth, which is essential for their growth.
Now there are several heat pads in the market, so how do you choose?
Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered, below is a list of the best heat padsfor your snakes.
Best Heat Pads for Snakes
Zacro Reptile Heat Pad
One of the top choices amongst the snake pet owners, Zacro snake heating pad is made of high-quality material, which is ideal for all sorts of pet reptiles.
It also has a 3m double-sided tape, which provides a firmer grip to the heating pad and makes sure it won’t slip.
Many times, heat pads don’t last for a more extended period due to the adhesive used on them, but Zacro doesn’t have this issue, which makes a big difference.
The temperature gauge connected to the pad works quite well and accurately too.
It’s made of a superior quality PVC material and, therefore, is soft, flexible, and easy to clean.
This pad is designed especially for standard terrarium glass for various reptiles and amphibians.
Another significant advantage is how economical it is; you can get this pad in less than 15$.
It keeps the tank warm, without causing any discomfort or any disturbance to your pet’s cycle.
It has a 6ft. long power cord and regulates and accurately maintains the temperature even in a 24-hour operation.
This pad has been keeping its customers happy and their pets healthy and vibrant looking.
iPower Reptile Heat Mat
This heat mat for snakes is another excellent product that is very economical to use.
The major selling point of the iPower heat mat is that it comes with a built-in thermostat!
Now this is great because a thermostat will keep a check on the temperature and automatically shut the heater off when the temperature gets too high.
Also, the thermostat is digital, which means it will keep the temperature in your vivarium very precise.
It is undoubtedly one of the best head pats for your ball pythons and other slithery pets.
The power heaters in these mats range between 4 to 24 watts since it is available in various sizes to suit your requirements.
Another major attractive point of this product is that it has superior heating insulation, which helps the tank to achieve the desired temperature within a few minutes.
Like other heat pads, it is easy to clean and is waterproof.
iPower heat pads are one of the hot picks among the pet snake owners due to its easy use and affordable pricing, even with a thermostat attached.
Overall it’s a great product and works equally well with other reptiles too.
iPower Terrarium Reptile Heating Pad
iPower is well known for making a variety of heating mats and pads for snakes and other reptiles.
This is the second of the four iPower recommendations on this list because it is indeed one of the best alternatives available in the market.
Just like the one mentioned above, this one has similar features except that it has an improved digital heat mat controller.
This one also has the superior heating film technology that enables the pad to reach the desired temperature quickly.
Another added feature of this product is that it has an easy plug-in thermostat controller with LED light indicators to keep you updated.
Also, the digital thermostat provides with both Fahrenheit and Celsius readouts.
They even have a three-prong outlet, which means that you can easily attach the thermostat controller to any other heat mat or compatible device.
The product is well tested for your suitability and has delivered excellent results.
The significant difference here is the thermostat controller with additional features for your use.
iPower Reptile Heat Pad
This is the third iPower product on my list; by now, you must have understood that they do make great heating pads for reptiles.
Most of the components of this model are the same as the ones mentioned above.
However, in this case, you will have to buy the thermostat controller separately.
This is an advantage for the people who already have a thermostat and just need the standard iPower heat pad or vice versa.
This has all the basic properties of an iPower product, ranging from 3M adhesive paper to the latest heating film insulation and a one-year manufacturer guarantee.
It is ideal for reptiles, amphibians, small animals, and even plant terrariums since they are specifically designed for glass vivarium meant for these animals.
The heat pad has the standard plug-in, which doesn’t need an adaptor, while the thermostat comes with a three-prong plug for better compatibility.
iPower products are quite easy to install and are available in a variety of sizes and distinct innovations to satisfy the precise wants of the various reptile pet owners.
iPower Under Tank Heat Pad
iPower is a big brand in horticulture, and while they have come up with various heating mats and pads for reptiles, they released a UTH (under tank heat) specifically for snake enclosures and other similar reptiles.
Most of the characteristics of the pad are the same as the other iPower productsrecommended before.
This UTH pad comes with a digital thermostat and is available in various sizes.
The thermostat has both Celsius and Fahrenheit readings and has heating LED indicators.
Since the thermostat is digital, it provides accurate readings and maintains the temperature within the required range.
The heat pad is adhesive and sticks firmly to the bottom of the vivarium and provides a firm grip without moving or coming off.
It is energy efficient and provides well under tank heating 24×7 without any hassle.
The iPower Under Tank Heat pad is a stellar option because you are getting a quality pad at a fair price.
All the iPower products are readily available on Amazon and in various sizes nonetheless.
I told you, they are quite popular when it comes to reptiles and especially for snakes heating pads.
How to Set Up a Snake Heating Pad
Just buying the correct heating pad isn’t the solution; you need to know how to set it up on your snake’s enclosure as well.
While the process itself is quite easy, we will give you a quick step-by-step procedure on how to set up the heating pad so that you can provide your pet with the best possible environment for its good health.
Step 1: Type and Size of Mat
First, you need to decide the type and size of the pad/mat you wish to use for the enclosure.
For example, if you are using a small terrarium, a 4”x7” size heat pad should suffice.
It depends on the size of your snake and its enclosure.
Step 2: Place of Installation
Half your work is done once the size and the type are selected. You now need to decide the place where you want to stick to the heating pad.
Do you want it at the side of the tank? Or do you want it under it? This also depends on the type of snake and the location of where you plan to put his terrarium.
You need to determine this before you set up the pad because once the pad sticks to the glass, it is a little challenging to remove it without spoiling the adhesive.
Therefore you need to make sure that you are setting it up in the right place.
Step 3: Cleaning Before the Installation
Once the position and the location for the heat pad are decided, it is now time to thoroughly clean that particular side of the glass before you stick the heat pad.
The cleaning before the installation is crucial because you need to get rid of any dirt or grease on the glass that could weaken the pad’s adhesive over time.
Also, try to stick the heating pad on an empty terrarium before placing your pet snake inside; this will make it easier for you to handle the tank.
Step 4: The Installation Process
The adhesive on the heat pad can be unsealed by taking off the paper covering the heating pad. It is like a big sticker.
To properly apply this, place one small edge of the pad with the adhesive side along the decided side of the glass, and then gently roll the entire pad and stick it.
Once done, press it gently on the glass to make sure there are no bends and creases around the power cord or on the pad itself.
Step 5: UTH Installation Requirement
This step is only needed if you decide to install the pad under the tank.
In case of UTH (under tank heat), you need to place small ‘feet’ across the four corners of your tank to lift it above a little and raise it off the surface
This is essential because it will not only present you with a gap needed for your power cord, but it will also avoid overheating of your tank by allowing excess heat to pass from the pad beneath.
Adequate heat not only helps the snakes to grow well but also enables them to digest their food better
And while there are several options available in the market, it’s vital to take care of the requirements of your snake and the tank before you make a decision.
Once correctly installed, these heating mats go a long way in providing a comfortable home to your pet reptile.
