Yes. Mice are known to hide in all sorts of locations including your clothes. If your clothes are dirty, stacked on the floor, cluttered, or even neatly stored in your closet, you are creating possible nesting locations for mice.

Piles of clothing in cardboard boxes or thrown around in the open would make perfect locations for a mouse to consider nesting.

Can Mice Live In Your Clothes?

Yes. If you leave your clothes on the floor sitting in a hamper for a long time, you are attracting mice to this location. Your clothes need to be placed in an area where mice will not be attracted to it.

Mice can harbor diseases and you may end up wearing clothes that have been compromised with bacteria or illnesses. If you have stored away clothes for long periods of time, you should wash them before you ever wear them again.

A mouse should be able to return into a closet if there are sufficient gaps that are larger than a quarter inch or 0.8 inches in diameter. If a pencil can fit through the sides, top or underneath the door, a mouse can squeeze its way through as well.

What Smell Do Mice Hate the Most?

There are multiple odors and smells that mice hate. They do not hate the smell of dirty clothes. Dirty clothes with actually attract a mouse. There could be all kinds of odors like food remnants that would attract a mouse to your clothes.

If you would like to keep mice away from your personal items or your home altogether, consider the following deterrent odors:

  • Cinnamon
  • Vinegar
  • Dryer sheets
  • Clove oil
  • Bay leaves
  • Peppermint oil

The final item on the list is ammonia which is a similar odor to urine. This may deter a mouse by thinking that there is a larger predator nearby and would want to remain as far away from this location as possible out of fear.

Urine stains on clothes that come from mice would usually be mixed with dust and grime or grease marks. They are yellowish and crusty and smell like ammonia.

The look of the urine stain would vary depending on the type of surface that they have peed on. If you are looking at a clean white T-shirt for example, you will see small yellow stains scattered over it.

Getting rid of urine stains on clothes would be best if you can expose it to hot water and laundry detergent. You can also use vinegar, baking soda and bleach if possible. The latter would stain your colored clothes,  but vinegar and baking soda together would not.

How Do You Get Mouse Pee Out of a White Shirt?

If you have a mouse pee on your white shirt, you should mix one part vinegar with one part water. You can spray or soak the area until it’s dry. You can repeat this process 2 to 3 times.

A mouse prefers to hide in warm, dark places. A common area for a mouse to hide would be:

Several fabrics such as cotton, can easily be shredded by a mouse as they tear away at it. Female mice are more commonly known to shred close as they are looking for materials to build their nests.

Your fabrics, linens and clothes are comfortable materials for a mouse to decide to shred in order to build a nest for themselves and their babies.

Do Mice Leave Grease Marks?

Yes. Mice can leave grease marks on your clothes and other surfaces. This is because they are usually wedging through dirty openings and staining their own fur. They will end up with oil and dirt on their coats.

These greasy smears will end up on your tiles, floors and baseboards or on different types of fabrics. This is an indicator that you have a mouse infestation.

What Can I Put In My Drawers to Keep Mice Away?

A good deterrent would be crushed peppermint. You can place them in satchels or bowls and then leave them inside your drawers. The strong smell of peppermint is a repellent for my house, but it is an aroma that we tend to enjoy.

This is why we brush our teeth with mint toothpaste. Place about 1 tbsp. of crushed peppermint inside a satchel and leave it in your drawer to prevent mice from entering or nesting there.

If you would like to keep mice away from your wardrobe, keep it as clean as possible.

  1. Hang your clothes and fold everything neatly away.
  2. If you leave clothes on the floor, you are attracting rodents insects creatures and other critters.

  4. Clothes that are not on the floor will prevent mice from nesting in it.
